Biography

The world’s youngest astronaut was born on February 1, 1987, shortly after his family had moved to San Gabriel. John and Maureen had agreed to limit their family to three children, and perhaps for that reason, Will took a special place in the Robinson home and in the hearts of his parents. Certainly they had no reason to be disappointed with the boy, who, by the age of five, was being called “the Little Genius” in reference to his inordinately high I.Q. (182 at the time of the Jupiter 2 liftoff).

Will inherited all of the attributes of his father - good looks, physical prowess, and intelligence. But the latter quality set him apart from his peers. Will quickly advanced in school several years past children of his own age, which left him to be something of a misfit among other children, whether it be those of the same age or the older students with whom he attended class. This problem was alleviated to some degree when the Robinson family began training at the United Space Corps Training Center. At the Center Will received special training suitable to his abilities. By the age of six he was enrolled in classes, equivalent to the third grade, and at the time of his completion of training at USSCTC, he had advanced to the eleventh grade.

Will’s superior intellect often led to problems. Like most boys, he was intensely curious - sometimes too curious for his own good, as evidenced when, not long after the Jupiter 2’s liftoff, he entered a derelict alien space ship without his parents ‘permission. Will also developed a keen interest in anything dealing with electronics; for example, at the age of six he dismantled the family’s VCR to see how it worked. To his parents’ amazement, he put it back together in perfect working order.

Of greater importance was the child’s difficulty in dealing with other people. Children his own age seldom understood or shared his interests, while older people did not take him seriously. In some situations, Will often tried to take on responsibilities usually granted only to adults. Despite his parents’ attempts to curb this tendency, it was still a problem after the family left Earth. Will often endangered both himself and his family by going off on his own without John or Maureen’s permission, and was once nearly killed by the Jupiter 2’s B-9 robot. During their first few weeks on Priplanus, Will finally learned his lesson after a few narrow escapes and began listening to his parents. Since then, he has matured, and experience has tempered his judgment.

After The Launch

Will’s love of adventure and inquisitive nature have often put the boy in peril during his first three years in space. But at the same time, his intelligence and common sense have saved the group of pioneers on more than one occasion.

Probably more so than any other member of the crew, Will has adapted very well to his uncertain environment in space. Whether it be handling their survival on an unknown planet, or dealing with hostile aliens, he always seems to handle the situation with ease. It is easy to see that as Will grows and matures, he will become an increasingly important asset to the Jupiter2 expedition.
